Reanda International's 2016 Annual Conference was held on 8-9 December 2016 at the One World Hotel in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia. The conference was well attended by over 60 partners and professionals from Reanda International network firms, who shared their professional experience, ways of cooperation and explored cross-border opportunities.
While 2015 was a momentous year for global alignment symbolised by the “One Belt and One Road” initiative, more Mainland enterprises are bound to “go global” and increase their overseas investment and M&A activities. With the set up of the innovative Reanda international Merge & Acquisition (M&A) Panel in the 4th quarter of 2016, Reanda specialists that combining deep industry expertise with local knowledge would be able to connect with each other to provide services on the ground to clients and captures the opportunities generated from the wave of M&A. Meanwhile, as Reanda International is a network of diverse firms from different countries, sometimes our members were surprised by the thoughts and beliefs of those who operated in a different cultural context when working together. Based on our observation, be initiative and inclusive in communications are often the two key elements to the successful referral job cooperation. In the backdrop of the above mentioned developments, the conference theme "Initiative, Inclusive, Innovative" this year had particular significance.
The annual conference provided an excellent opportunity for delegates, both long standing and new, to connect with their Reanda colleagues and pursue business networking opportunities that are extremely beneficial for generating business together.
On 8 December 2016, preceded by the board meeting of Reanda International, the conference commenced with an opening address by Mr. Huang Jinhui, Chairman of Reanda International. This was followed by the signing ceremony to admit Robert Borg & Associates Ltd and RPB & Associates, Chartered Accountants as the network's new Malta and Nepal member firm respectively and to welcome Portugal firm BTOC Portugal to join Reanda International. In addition, the “Doing Business Guide in China” publication, the member’s market analysis report and the Reanda international Merge & Acquisition (M&A) Panel had also been officially launched during the conference. The conference was continued with the presentation made by Mr. Franklin Lau, CEO of Reanda International offering an overview of the network‘s development in 2016 and the strategic plans for 2017 embodied by the conference theme Initiative, Inclusive, Innovative.
The meeting was further brimmed with key presentation from Mr. L.L. Koong, Managing Partner of Reanda Malaysia to share about the development of the China Desk in Malaysia and his experiences in working with clients of Chinese enterprises. Highlights of the conference also included presentations from Reanda China, Reanda UK and Reanda Japan about the latest merger and acquisition activities in their respective countries and their relevant services offered to clients. Additionally, new member firms of Reanda International presented introduction of their own firms. After the meeting, for the first time, the network hosted a client panel which was chaired by Chairman Mr. Huang Jinhui. A number of large Chinese multinational clients were invited to share their views on services and support they seek from global auditors and advisors in the near future.
The day one conference was rounded out by a welcome dinner hosted by Reanda Malaysia at the Madam Kwan Restaurant where the delegates were offered to experience the traditional Malaysian delicacies.
In the morning of 9 December 2016, the international tax meeting, chaired by Mr. LL Koong, Chairman of the International Tax Panel (ITP) of Reanda International, was commenced with the sharing of noteworthy tax developments in China, Hong Kong and Malaysia respectively by Mr. Zhu Yuxiang, Mr. Lorance Chan, Vice Chairmen of the ITP and Ms. Hii Chui Yung, senior tax manager of Reanda Malaysia. This was followed by presentations and discussion of members firms about their cross-border tax development in their respective regions. In the afternoon, the Reanda delegation led by Mr. Huang Jinhui and Mr. L.L. Koong, paid a courtesy visit to the Secretariat for the Advancement of Malaysian Entrepreneurs (SAME) of which is under the governance of the Minister in the Prime Minister’s Department, and met with Mr. Neil Foo Seck Chyn, CEO of SAME. Mr. Neil Foo briefed the Reanda delegates the overall Malaysia economy and the investment. Mr. Foo was impressed with the vision and development of our oriental-based Network. He also encouraged our active participation in facilitating the mutual collaboration of the business enterprises and accounting firms between Malaysia and other Asian countries.
The day was ended with a networking cocktail reception and a superb gala dinner jointly hosted by Reanda International and Reanda Malaysia at the Ruyi & Lyn Restaurant Lounge with great ambience serving fabulous contemporary East Asian cuisine. The gala dinner was graced with the presence of honorable guests including Datuk Wong Nai Chee, Political Secretary to Prime Minister of Malaysia, Yang Berhormat Datuk Seri Najib Tun Razak; Datuk Donald Lim, Former Deputy Finance Minister; Datuk Low Kian Chuan, Secretary General, the Associated Chinese Chambers of Commerce and Industry of Malaysia, ACCCIM; Datuk Dr. Ting Chung Cheng, Formal President of Taipei Investors' Association in Malaysia; Dato’ Sri KING C.F. LIM, National President of the Federation of Clans and Guilds Youth Association of Malaysia; Dato’ Sri Ang Lai Hee, JP, Director President of the Malaysia Xiang Lian Youth Association Charity and Educational Fund; Mr. Neil Foo, CEO of Secretariat for the Advancement of Malaysian Entrepreneurs, SAME; Dato’ Tan Kim Leong, Advisor of Reanda Malaysia, Senior Accountant and other distinguished guests from press and some corporate entities.
On 10 December 2016, the delegates managed to relax over a full day cultural group tour to the Malacca, Malaysia’s historical gem, a UNESCO world heritage city, which was colonised by the Portuguese, Dutch and British for over 400 years over its strategic location for maritime trade.
Reanda China has offered to organize the Reanda International Annual Conference 2017 and this was unanimously agreed.
